Understanding Your Bill

Your monthly bill comes from your local power distribution company, and is split into two parts: Delivery Service and Electric Supply.

  1. Delivery Service: These are the costs to maintain the electric grid and distribute electricity from its point of generation to your residence. The service is provided by the local distribution company for your service area (in this case, COMED or Ameren), and you will see specific charges from them. Costs associated with Delivery are generally not affected by your electric rate, and represent a standard, fixed cost.
  2. Electric Supply: This is the portion of your bill that varies with your electricity rate. Electric Supply costs include the cost to generate and supply the electricity you use, and are charged to you by an alternative retail electric company (like Think Energy) or your local electric distribution company if you are on default service.

Illinois Energy Deregulation

In 1997, Illinois moved to a competitive energy market, allowing alternative retail electric companies in Chicago and Illinois regions to compete for your business, and allowing customers to choose the electricity supplier offer that works best for them.

At Think Energy, we understands that you as the consumer might have questions about energy deregulation or who Think Energy is. We strive to provide answers to all of your questions, but if you can’t find an answer on our website, please call our customer support at 866-252-0078.
