Alternative Energy, Inc. in Energy Matters

Alternative Energy, Inc.
Today, AEI is the developer and operator of three wood-fired energy facilities. AEI has been an integral part of four projects with a combined capital cost of approximately $200 million. AEI is an industry leader in the development and operation of biomass generation facilities. AEI is responsible for identifying potential projects, negotiating firm power purchase agreements ("PPAs") with utilities, negotiating fixed price construction contracts with "turnkey" contractors, securing necessary environmental, construction and operating permits, and obtaining construction and permanent financing. AEI's facilities are "qualifying small power production facilities" under federal law and as such are almost entirely exempt from federal and state regulations that pertain to public utilities. By federal law, public utilities are required to purchase electricity generated by facilities like AEI. AEI has secured long-term power purchase agreements for each of its facilities with local utilities. AEI oversees the construction of projects and, upon their completion, operates the projects on behalf of their owner limited partnerships. AEI has completed three plants and has been involved in numerous other partnerships, is now managing three plants (two of which are currently in Cold Standby Status), and employs 75 people throughout the plants and the corporate office.
